Amazonite - Green-Blue Microcline Feldspar

Amazonite with Smoky Quartz From Afghanistan

Amazonite, also known as amazon stone, is a variety of the potassium feldspar microcline. It was named after the Amazon River, where green stones were found. It is not known whether those stones were actually amazonite. Ancient Egyptians used this mineral in making jewelry and decorative pieces. Amazonite specimens can be found in colors ranging from light green to deep green-blue. The beautiful blue-green color is due to the presence of the element lead, and sometimes iron, in addition to water in the feldspar. Amazonite is often found in association with smoky quartz, albite, clevelandite, microcline & quartz. It is found in Afghanistan, China, Mongolia, South Africa and the United States.

We carry natural amazonite mineral specimens as well as cabochons for jewelry making or crystal grids.
