Yellow / Green Titanite (Sphene) Crystals on Black Tourmaline Covered Mica Schist

$85.00

Yellow/green gemmy titanite crystals set in a sparkly black tourmaline, feldspar and mica schist matrix.

This titanite is from the famous gemstone-bearing granite pegmatites of the Shigar Valley of Gilgit-Baltistan in northern Pakistan.

Titanite is a calcium titanium nesosilicate mineral, CaTiSiO₅ As a gemstone, it is callled sphene and is popular with collectors because of its high dispersion (sphene is one of the few minerals with a dispersion higher than diamond). Specimens of sphene with high clarity can display a strong, colorful fire when light is passed through them.
